DIY EQUESTRIAN LIFEHACKS
Equestrian Lifehacks on a Budget
Equestrians have so many things to deal with. All the stable chores, taking care of horses, training, and competitions…
Care items, feeding horses, trying to find best and cheap tacks, trying to wear cool and chic clothes during competitions may cause you a lot of stress and cost a lot of money.
Even for the simplest things, you may start pondering whether to buy or not.
Actually, you can use cheap items you can find everywhere to create your own stable items and save your money for better equipment.
You can give a try to these equestrian tips:
- Homemade fly spray
To make your own fly spray and save some money, you can simply mix 2 cups of white vinegar, 4 cups of baby oil, and a few drops of any essential oil you like. Fill rest of the bottle with water.
Quite easy, healthy, and cheaper than the special sprays made for horses.
- Long lasting saddle soap
To reduce the money you spend to saddle soaps, the ratio is ⅔ glycerine saddle soap and ⅓ full-fat milk.
Easily melt the soap in the microwave and stir in the milk, then chill in the fridge for 10-12 hours.
Yeap, ready. (Use a cheap plastic bowl to melt the soap as it’s hard to take it off when it hardens.)
- Using ketchup to whiten tails
You might be having problems with your grey horse’s were stained yellow looking tail. No worries.
You can just apply some ketchup and leave it for 10-15 minutes. Chemicals in the ketchup will lift the yellow stains.
You can wash later as you like and get whiter tail.
- Keeping the water trough clean
If you are struggling with some mosquitos or gnats in your horse’s water trough, just add a tiny cup of apple cider vinegar to the trough.
It will keep the tiny insects away and it’s natural.
- Homemade coat conditioner
Instead of paying to coat conditioners, you can use liquid coconut oil. Besides being natural, coconut oil is colorless, odorless.
It is easily absorbed by horse’s skin and hair. Plus it doesn’t stain tacks or clothes.
Don’t forget that, you can always come up with creative ideas to take better care of your horse with natural items instead of buying expensive petroleum-based products.
